Jack Holbrook is a crime writer, born in England and now living in Australia.
Alexandra Bertolissio is Jack’s favourite invention. A Detective Constable in the Queensland Police Service, Alexandra lives and works in the city of Brisbane. She lives alone, but her beautiful and reckless sister Mel, is always around to complicate her life. The stories in which Alexandra features are as much about her difficult relationships with Mel and their estranged father as they are about the murders she solves.
Although Alexandra is a brilliant detective, she doesn’t have the kind of personality that would help her rise in a police force dominated by mateship and machismo attitudes. She is a reflective, introverted person, uncomfortable with the jocks who surround her, unable to be ‘one of the boys’. Yet her keen intellect and quiet courage take her to the dark heart of many mysteries that leave her colleagues baffled.
